Installing a New Drop-In Bathroom Sink: A Step-by-Step Guide

Upgrading your bathroom sink can greatly enhance its aesthetics and functionality. If you're opting for a drop-in sink, known for its ease of installation, follow these comprehensive steps to ensure a successful outcome.

Materials Required:

  • Drop-in sink
  • Sink drain and overflow drain
  • Plumber's putty
  • Silicone sealant
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Putty knife
  • Measuring tape

Step 1: Remove the Existing Sink

  1. Turn off the water supply beneath the sink.
  2. Disconnect the drain lines and supply lines.
  3. Lift the sink from the countertop and remove it.

Step 2: Prepare the Countertop

  1. Clean the countertop surface where the sink will be installed.
  2. Place the sink in the cutout on the countertop and adjust it to the desired position.
  3. Mark the outline of the sink's rim on the countertop.

Step 3: Apply Plumber's Putty

  1. Roll out a thin rope of plumber's putty.
  2. Place the putty around the underside of the sink, following the outline marked on the countertop.
  3. Press the putty down firmly to create a seal.

Step 4: Set the Sink

  1. Carefully lift the sink and gently place it onto the countertop.
  2. Press the sink into the putty to secure it.
  3. Wipe away any excess putty that may ooze out.

Step 5: Install the Drain and Overflow

  1. Apply plumbers' putty to the drain assembly.
  2. Insert the drain assembly into the drain hole and tighten it.
  3. Apply silicone sealant around the base of the drain assembly and the sink.

  2. Apply silicone sealant around the edges where the sink meets the countertop.
