How to Install a Shut-Off Valve Under a Bathroom Sink

A shut-off valve is an essential component of any bathroom sink, as it allows you to turn off the water supply to the sink without having to access the main water supply valve. This can be useful in the event of a leak or if you need to perform maintenance on the sink or faucet. Installing a shut-off valve is a relatively simple task that can be completed in just a few minutes.

Materials You Will Need

  • Shut-off valve
  • Wrench
  • Plumber's putty

Instructions

  1. Turn off the water supply to the sink. This can be done by turning the handle on the main water supply valve clockwise.
  2. Open the faucet to release any residual water pressure.
  3. Place a small amount of plumber's putty around the base of the shut-off valve. This will help to create a watertight seal.
  4. Screw the shut-off valve onto the threaded nipple coming out of the wall.
  5. Tighten the shut-off valve using a wrench.
  6. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the shut-off valve further.
