How to Remove a Moen Bathroom Sink Screen

A Moen bathroom sink screen is a small, mesh screen that sits at the bottom of the sink's drain opening. It helps to trap hair and other debris from clogging the drain. Over time, the screen can become clogged with debris, which can lead to slow draining or even a complete clog. If you notice that your Moen bathroom sink is draining slowly, the first step is to check the screen and clean it if necessary.

Tools You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Bucket
  • Cloth

Instructions

1. Turn off the water supply to the sink. There will be two shut-off valves under the sink, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. Turn both valves clockwise until they are fully closed.

2. Open the sink drain. This will allow any water in the sink to drain out.

3. Remove the drain stopper. The drain stopper is usually held in place by a screw. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw, then pull out the drain stopper.

4. Locate the sink screen. The sink screen is located at the bottom of the drain opening. It is usually held in place by a plastic ring.

5. Remove the plastic ring. Use a pair of pliers to gently pry the plastic ring off of the sink screen.

6. Lift out the sink screen. Once the plastic ring is removed, you can simply lift out the sink screen.

7. Clean the sink screen. Use a cloth to wipe away any debris from the sink screen. You can also rinse the screen with water.

8. Reinstall the sink screen. Once the screen is clean, simply place it back into the drain opening. Make sure that the screen is seated properly.

9. Reinstall the plastic ring. Use the pliers to snap the plastic ring back into place over the sink screen.

10. Reinstall the drain stopper. Insert the drain stopper into the drain opening and tighten the screw to hold it in place.

11. Turn on the water supply to the sink. Open both shut-off valves under the sink to turn the water supply back on.

12. Check for leaks. Once the water is turned back on, check for any leaks around the drain. If you see any leaks, tighten the plastic ring or the drain stopper until the leak stops.
