How Do You Disassemble a Moen Bathroom Faucet?

Moen bathroom faucets are known for their durability and ease of maintenance. If you need to replace a worn-out part or clean the faucet thoroughly, disassembling it is a relatively simple process. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to disassemble a Moen bathroom faucet:

1. Gather Your Tools:

Before you start, gather the necessary tools, including an adjustable wrench, a Phillips head screwdriver, and a flathead screwdriver.

2. Turn Off the Water Supply:

Turn off the water supply valves beneath the sink. This will prevent water from spraying when you disconnect the faucet.

3. Disconnect the Water Supply Lines:

Use the adjustable wrench to disconnect the water supply lines from the faucet. Place a bucket or towel underneath the connections to catch any dripping water.

4. Remove the Aerator:

If your faucet has an aerator, use a flathead screwdriver to unscrew it. The aerator is the small nozzle at the end of the spout.

5. Remove the Handle Screws:

Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that secure the handle to the faucet. There may be two or three screws, depending on the model.

6. Pull Off the Handle:

Once the screws are removed, gently pull the handle straight up to remove it from the faucet.

7. Loosen the Bonnet Nut:

Use the adjustable wrench to loosen the bonnet nut, which is located at the base of the faucet. Do not remove it completely.

8. Pull Out the Cartridge:

Grasp the cartridge with your hand and pull it straight out of the faucet. The cartridge is the cylindrical part that controls the flow of water.

9. Disassemble the Cartridge (Optional):

If you need to replace or clean the cartridge, you can disassemble it by removing the circlip that holds the parts together.

10. Reassemble the Faucet:

Once you have cleaned or replaced the necessary parts, reassemble the faucet in reverse order. Make sure to tighten all the connections securely.

11. Turn on the Water Supply:

Turn on the water supply valves beneath the sink and check for any leaks.
