How to Frame a Bathroom Mirror
Framed bathroom mirrors are a stylish and functional way to add personality and depth to your bathroom decor. Whether you're replacing an old mirror or adding a new one, framing it can elevate its aesthetic appeal and make it a focal point of the space.
Materials You'll Need
- Bathroom mirror
- Picture frame (wood, metal, or plastic)
- Measuring tape
- Level
- Mirror clips or wire
- Screws or nails
- Drywall anchors (for drywall walls)
Step 1: Measure and Cut the Frame
Measure the length and width of the mirror. Add 2 inches to each measurement to allow for the frame's overlap. Cut the frame to the appropriate size using a miter saw or a handsaw with a miter box.
Step 2: Assemble the Frame
Join the four frame pieces at the corners, forming a rectangle. Secure them together using wood glue, clamps, and/or corner brackets. Make sure the corners are flush and square.
Step 3: Attach the Mirror Clips
Place the frame on the floor with the back facing up. Determine the location of the mirror clips or wire on the frame's back. Mark the positions and attach the clips or wire securely using screws or nails.
Step 4: Place the Mirror in the Frame
Carefully lift the mirror and place it into the frame. Align the mirror's edges with the inside edge of the frame. Secure the mirror to the clips or wire by pressing or tightening them.
Step 5: Hang the Framed Mirror
Measure and mark the desired height and location for the framed mirror on the wall. Use a level to ensure it's level. Insert drywall anchors into the wall if necessary. Screw or nail the framed mirror into the wall, using screws or nails long enough to penetrate both the frame and the anchors (if used).
Additional Tips
- Choose a frame that complements the style and decor of your bathroom.
- Use a sealant to waterproof the frame if the mirror is installed in a humid area.
- If the frame is heavy, consider using a heavy-duty hanging system.
- Hang the framed mirror at eye level for optimal visibility.
- Accessorize with sconces or other wall decor to complete the look.
