How to Antique Paint a Bathroom Vanity

Antiquing paint is a great way to give your bathroom vanity a unique and aged look. It's a relatively simple process that can be completed in a few hours. Here are the steps on how to antique paint a bathroom vanity:

Materials:

  • Sandpaper (120-grit and 220-grit)
  • Tack cloth
  • Primer
  • Base coat paint
  • Antiquing glaze
  • Clear polyurethane finish
  • Paintbrushes
  • Rags

Instructions:

1. Clean the vanity.

Remove any hardware from the vanity and clean it thoroughly with a damp cloth. Allow the vanity to dry completely.

2. Sand the vanity.

Sand the vanity with 120-grit sandpaper to remove any existing finish. Then, sand the vanity again with 220-grit sandpaper to smooth the surface. Wipe away any sanding dust with a tack cloth.

3. Prime the vanity.

Apply a coat of primer to the vanity using a paintbrush. Allow the primer to dry completely.

4. Paint the vanity with a base coat.

Apply two coats of base coat paint to the vanity, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next.

5. Apply the antiquing glaze.

Mix the antiquing glaze according to the manufacturer's instructions. Apply the glaze to the vanity using a paintbrush, working in small sections. Wipe away any excess glaze with a rag.

6. Allow the glaze to dry.

Allow the glaze to dry completely, according to the manufacturer's instructions.

7. Apply a clear polyurethane finish.

Apply two coats of clear polyurethane finish to the vanity, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next.

8. Reattach the hardware.

Once the polyurethane finish is dry, reattach the hardware to the vanity.
