How to Remove a Large Bathroom Mirror With Metal Clips

Removing a large bathroom mirror with metal clips can be a daunting task, but it's actually quite straightforward if you have the right tools. With a few simple steps, you can safely detach the mirror without damaging it or the wall.

Safety First

Before you begin, make sure you have safety glasses and gloves. The mirror is heavy and can easily break, so it's important to protect yourself from any potential hazards.

Gather Your Tools

You will need the following tools for this task:

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Putty knife or razor blade
  • Carpenter's level
  • Hammer

Locate the Metal Clips

Most large bathroom mirrors are secured to the wall using metal clips. These clips are typically located along the top and bottom edges of the mirror. To find them, use the screwdriver to gently pry the mirror away from the wall at the top corner. Once you've located the first clip, you can use the screwdriver to pry the rest loose.

Remove the Mirror

Once you've removed the metal clips, carefully lift the mirror from the wall. Be sure to support the bottom edge of the mirror to prevent it from falling. Slowly pull the mirror straight up and away from the wall, taking care not to damage the mirror or the wall.

Clean the Wall

Once the mirror is removed, you can clean the wall surface behind it. Use a damp cloth to wipe away any dust or debris. If there is any adhesive residue, you can remove it with a putty knife or razor blade.

Reinstall the Mirror (Optional)

If you're reinstalling the mirror, follow these steps in reverse order.

  1. Clean the back of the mirror and the wall surface with a damp cloth.
  2. Apply a thin bead of adhesive to the back of the mirror.
  3. Align the mirror with the wall and press it firmly into place.
  4. Insert the metal clips and secure them with a hammer.
  5. Check the mirror with a level to ensure it's straight.

Removing and reinstalling a large bathroom mirror with metal clips is a relatively easy task. By following these steps, you can safely and effectively detach the mirror without causing any damage.
