How To Replace A Bathroom Exhaust Fan With Light And Heater

If you're looking to upgrade your bathroom's ventilation and lighting, replacing your old exhaust fan with a new one that includes a light and heater is a great option. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it yourself.

Tools and Materials

  • New exhaust fan with light and heater
  • Screwdriver
  • Wire cutters
  • Electrical tape
  • Caulk gun
  • Caulk

Step 1: Safety First

Before you begin, turn off the power to the bathroom at the circuit breaker or fuse box. This will prevent any electrical shocks.

Step 2: Remove the Old Fan

Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the old fan in place. Carefully pull the fan out of the ceiling, being mindful of any wires that may be attached.

Step 3: Disconnect the Wires

Once the fan is removed, disconnect the wires from the old fan motor and light. Use wire cutters to cut the wires close to the motor and light, leaving enough wire to connect to the new fan.

Step 4: Install the New Fan

Position the new fan in the ceiling and secure it with the screws provided. Make sure that the fan is level and that the housing is flush with the ceiling.

Step 5: Connect the Wires

Connect the wires from the new fan motor and light to the corresponding wires on the ceiling. Use electrical tape to insulate the connections.

Step 6: Caulk Around the Fan

Apply a bead of caulk around the edges of the fan housing to seal any gaps and prevent moisture from entering the ceiling.

Step 7: Turn on the Power

Once everything is connected and sealed, turn the power back on at the circuit breaker or fuse box. Test the fan, light, and heater to make sure they are working properly.

Step 8: Enjoy Your New Fan

Congratulations! You have successfully replaced your bathroom exhaust fan with a new one that includes a light and heater. Enjoy the improved ventilation, lighting, and warmth in your bathroom.
