How to Install a Drain Plug in a Bathroom Sink

Gather the necessary tools and materials:

Replacement drain plug
Adjustable wrench or pliers
Rubber washer (if needed)
Plumber's putty (optional)

Step 1: Remove the old drain plug

Place a bucket or bowl under the sink to catch any water. Use an adjustable wrench or pliers to loosen the old drain plug by turning it counterclockwise. Once it is loose, remove the plug and any attached rubber washer.

Step 2: Clean the drain hole

Use a damp cloth or sponge to clean the drain hole and remove any debris or old plumber's putty. If there is a lot of buildup, you may need to use a drain cleaner. Rinse the drain thoroughly with water.

Step 3: Apply plumber's putty (optional)

If you want to enhance the seal around the drain plug, apply a small amount of plumber's putty around the base of the drain plug. This will help to prevent water leaks.

Step 4: Insert the new drain plug

Insert the new drain plug into the drain hole. Turn it clockwise using your adjustable wrench or pliers until it is hand-tight. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the sink or drain.
