How to Replace a Cartridge in a Bathroom Sink Faucet
Replacing a cartridge in a bathroom sink faucet is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few minutes. The cartridge is a small, cylindrical-shaped component that controls the flow of water through the faucet. Over time, cartridges can become worn or damaged, which can lead to leaks or other problems. If you notice any of these problems, it is important to replace the cartridge as soon as possible.
To replace the cartridge, you will need the following tools:
- Adjustable wrench
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Replacement cartridge
Before you begin, turn off the water supply to the faucet. You can do this by turning the shut-off valves located under the sink. Once the water is turned off, you can proceed with the following steps:
- Remove the aerator. The aerator is the small, screen-like device that is attached to the end of the faucet. It can be removed by unscrewing it by hand.
- Use the adjustable wrench to loosen the packing nut. The packing nut is located at the base of the faucet handle. Once it is loose, you can remove it by hand.
- Pull out the old cartridge. The cartridge is located inside the faucet body. You can pull it out by hand.
- Insert the new cartridge. Align the new cartridge with the faucet body and push it into place.
- Tighten the packing nut. Use the adjustable wrench to tighten the packing nut until it is snug.
- Reinstall the aerator. Screw the aerator back onto the end of the faucet.
Once you have completed these steps, turn the water supply back on and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, your faucet is now repaired.
