Fixing a Leaky Double Handle Bathroom Sink Faucet

A leaky bathroom sink faucet is not only annoying but can also waste a significant amount of water. If you find yourself in this situation, don't worry. Fixing a leaky double handle bathroom sink faucet is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few easy steps.

Materials you'll need:

Adjustable wrench
Phillips head screwdriver
Flat head screwdriver (optional)
Washers (if needed)
New seat assembly (if needed)

Step 1: Turn off the water supply.

There are usually two valves located under the sink. Close both of these valves to shut off the water to the faucet.

Step 2: Remove the handles.

Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the handles in place. Once the screws are removed, pull the handles straight up to remove them.

Step 3: Remove the packing nut.

Use the adjustable wrench to loosen the packing nut, which is located just below the handle. Once the packing nut is loosened, pull it straight up to remove it.

Step 4: Replace the washer.

If the washer is worn or damaged, you will need to replace it. Insert a new washer into the packing nut and tighten it back into place.

Step 5: Reinstall the packing nut.

Carefully align the packing nut with the threads on the faucet body and tighten it by hand. Use the adjustable wrench to tighten it further, but be careful not to overtighten it.

Step 6: Reinstall the handles.

Push the handles back onto the faucet body and secure them with the screws. Tighten the screws until they are snug.

Step 7: Turn on the water supply.

Open the valves under the sink to turn the water supply back on. Check for any leaks. If there are any leaks, you may need to tighten the packing nut further or replace the seat assembly.

Step 8: Replace the seat assembly (if needed).

If the leak is coming from the base of the faucet, you may need to replace the seat assembly. To do this, remove the handle and packing nut as described in steps 2 and 3. Then, use the flat head screwdriver to pry the old seat assembly out of the faucet body. Insert the new seat assembly and tighten it by hand.
