Fixing Leaking Single Handle Bathroom Faucet
A leaking single handle bathroom faucet can be a common problem that can lead to water waste and higher utility bills. Fortunately, fixing a leaking faucet is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a matter of minutes with the right tools and parts.
Tools and Materials:- Phillips head screwdriver
- Adjustable wrench
- Replacement cartridge
- Replacement O-rings
- Plumber's grease
- Rags
Locate the water supply valves under the sink and turn them off to stop the water flow to the faucet.
2. Remove the Faucet Handle:Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw that holds the handle in place. Pull the handle straight up and off the faucet.
3. Remove the Cartridge:Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the cartridge retaining nut. Remove the cartridge by pulling it straight out of the faucet body.
4. Inspect the Cartridge:Inspect the cartridge for any damage or wear. If the cartridge is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
5. Replace the Cartridge and O-rings:Apply plumber's grease to the new cartridge O-rings and insert the cartridge into the faucet body. Tighten the retaining nut securely.
6. Reinstall the Handle:Align the handle with the faucet body and press it down until it clicks into place. Secure the handle with the screw.
7. Turn On the Water Supply:Turn the water supply valves back on and check for leaks. If any leaks are detected, tighten the cartridge retaining nut or handle screw as necessary.
Tips:- Use caution when tightening the cartridge retaining nut to avoid overtightening and damaging the faucet.
- If the leak is coming from the base of the faucet, it may be necessary to replace the O-rings on the water supply lines.
- If you are not comfortable working on plumbing, it is recommended to call a professional plumber for assistance.
