How to Remove a Moen Widespread Bathroom Faucet

Updating your bathroom faucet is a relatively simple DIY project that can give your space a fresh, updated look. If you're considering replacing your Moen widespread bathroom faucet, follow these step-by-step instructions to safely and effectively remove the old faucet.

Gather Your Tools

Before you begin, gather the necessary tools for the job:

  • Adjustable wrench or basin wrench
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Bucket or basin
  • Work gloves (optional)

Turn Off the Water Supply

Safety first! Locate the water supply valves for your bathroom sink under the sink. Turn off both the hot and cold water valves to prevent flooding during the removal process.

Drain the Faucet

Open both the hot and cold handles of the faucet to fully drain the water from the faucet and lines.

Disconnect the Supply Lines

Using an adjustable wrench or basin wrench, loosen the nuts that connect the supply lines to the faucet body. Be careful not to overtighten or damage the lines. Remove the supply lines from the faucet by hand.

Remove the Handle Screws

Locate and remove the screws that secure the handles to the faucet body. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to unscrew these screws.

Lift Off the Handles

Carefully lift the handles straight up and off the faucet body. Be mindful of any wires or connections attached to the handles.

Unscrew the Mounting Nuts

Underneath the sink, locate the large mounting nuts that hold the faucet in place. Use an adjustable wrench to carefully loosen and remove these nuts.

Lift Out the Faucet

With the mounting nuts removed, gently lift the faucet straight up and out of the sinkhole. Place the faucet in a bucket or basin to catch any residual water.

Clean the Mounting Surface

Once the faucet is removed, take the opportunity to clean the mounting surface of the sink or countertop. Remove any old caulk or debris to ensure a clean surface for the new faucet installation.

Congratulations!

You have now successfully removed your Moen widespread bathroom faucet. Repeat the process in reverse order to install your new faucet, making sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper installation.
