How to Change a Bathroom Vanity Light Fixture

Replacing a bathroom vanity light fixture is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a short amount of time. With a few simple tools and a little bit of know-how, you can easily update the look of your bathroom without having to hire a professional.

Tools and Materials You'll Need

Phillips head screwdriver
Wire cutters
Electrical tape
New vanity light fixture

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Turn off the power to the light fixture. This can be done by flipping the breaker or removing the fuse that controls the circuit. If you're not sure which breaker or fuse controls the light fixture, you can turn off the main breaker to your home.

2. Remove the old light fixture. Most vanity light fixtures are held in place by screws. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws and then carefully pull the light fixture away from the wall.

3. Disconnect the wires. The wires that connect the light fixture to the electrical system will be held in place by wire nuts. Use a pair of wire cutters to cut the wires and then remove the wire nuts.
