How to Fill the Space Between a Bathroom Vanity and Wall
When installing a bathroom vanity, there may be a gap between the vanity and the wall. This gap can be unsightly and can also allow water to seep through, causing damage to the wall and floor. There are a few different ways to fill this gap, depending on the size of the gap and the materials that the vanity and wall are made of.
Small Gaps
If the gap is small, it can be filled with caulk. Caulk is a flexible material that will seal the gap and prevent water from seeping through. To apply caulk, simply clean the surface of the vanity and wall, and then apply a bead of caulk along the gap. Use your finger or a caulk finishing tool to smooth out the caulk and remove any excess.
Medium Gaps
If the gap is too large to be filled with caulk, you can use a backer rod and caulk. A backer rod is a flexible, foam-like material that is inserted into the gap before applying caulk. The backer rod will help to fill the gap and provide support for the caulk. To use a backer rod, cut the rod to the length of the gap, and then insert it into the gap. Apply a bead of caulk over the backer rod and smooth it out.
Large Gaps
If the gap is very large, you may need to use a filler strip. A filler strip is a thin strip of wood or plastic that is cut to fit the length of the gap. To use a filler strip, cut the strip to the length of the gap, and then insert it into the gap. Secure the filler strip in place with screws or nails.
Preventing Gaps
The best way to prevent gaps between the vanity and wall is to measure the space carefully before installing the vanity. If the vanity is too small, it will not fit snugly against the wall and there will be a gap. If the vanity is too large, it will be difficult to install and may damage the wall.
Once the vanity is installed, check for any gaps. If you find any gaps, fill them with caulk, a backer rod and caulk, or a filler strip, depending on the size of the gap.
By following these tips, you can ensure that your bathroom vanity is installed properly and that there are no gaps between the vanity and the wall.
