How To Fix A Leaking Moen 1225 Series Bathroom Faucet By Replacing The Cartridge

A leaking faucet is a common plumbing problem that can waste water and increase your water bill. If you have a Moen 1225 series bathroom faucet that is leaking, you may be able to fix it yourself by replacing the cartridge. Here are the steps on how to do it:

Tools and Materials You'll Need:

  • Replacement Moen 1225 cartridge
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Hex key
  • Bucket or bowl
  • Rags

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet. There should be two shut-off valves under the sink. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water.
  2. Open the faucet to release any remaining water in the lines.
  3. Place a bucket or bowl under the faucet to catch any water that may leak out.
  4. Remove the aerator. The aerator is the small, screen-like attachment at the end of the faucet. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the aerator and remove it.
  5. Remove the handle. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw that holds the handle in place. Pull the handle straight up to remove it.
  6. Remove the cap. Use a hex key to remove the cap that covers the cartridge. The cap is usually located behind the handle.
  7. Remove the cartridge. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the cartridge and remove it from the faucet body.
  8. Install the new cartridge. Insert the new cartridge into the faucet body and tighten it with an adjustable wrench.
  9. Replace the cap. Place the cap back over the cartridge and tighten it with a hex key.
  10. Replace the handle. Push the handle back onto the faucet body and tighten the screw that holds it in place.
  11. Replace the aerator. Screw the aerator back onto the end of the faucet.
  12. Turn on the water supply to the faucet and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, you have successfully replaced the cartridge and fixed the leak.

Tips:

  • If you are not comfortable replacing the cartridge yourself, you can call a plumber to do it for you.
  • Be careful not to overtighten the cartridge or the cap.
  • If you have any questions, consult the Moen 1225 series bathroom faucet installation instructions.
