How to Fix a Leaky Kohler Bathroom Faucet

A leaky faucet is a common problem that can waste water and drive up your utility bills. If you have a leaky Kohler bathroom faucet, there are a few things you can do to fix it yourself. Here are the essential steps to follow:

1. Identify the Type of Leak

The first step is to identify the type of leak you have. There are two main types of leaks: a drip from the spout and a leak from the base of the faucet. If the water is dripping from the spout, the problem is likely with the cartridge. If the water is leaking from the base of the faucet, the problem is likely with the O-rings.

2. Gather the Necessary Tools

Once you know the type of leak you have, you can gather the necessary tools. For a leak from the spout, you will need a Phillips head screwdriver and a new cartridge. For a leak from the base of the faucet, you will need an adjustable wrench and a new set of O-rings.

3. Turn Off the Water Supply

Before you start working on the faucet, be sure to turn off the water supply. You can do this by turning off the shut-off valves under the sink. Once the water supply is turned off, open the faucet to release any remaining water.

4. Remove the Handle

The next step is to remove the handle. On most Kohler faucets, the handle is held in place by a screw. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw and then pull the handle straight up.

5. Remove the Cartridge

If the water is leaking from the spout, you will need to remove the cartridge. The cartridge is located inside the faucet body. Use the adjustable wrench to loosen the packing nut and then pull the cartridge straight out.

6. Replace the Cartridge

Insert the new cartridge into the faucet body and tighten the packing nut. Be sure to tighten the packing nut securely, but do not overtighten it.

7. Reinstall the Handle

Once the cartridge is replaced, you can reinstall the handle. Align the handle with the stem and then push it down until it clicks into place. Tighten the screw to secure the handle.

8. Turn On the Water Supply

Turn on the water supply and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, you have successfully fixed the leaky faucet.
