How to Fix a Leaky Kohler Bathroom Faucet Handle

A leaky faucet is a common plumbing issue that can waste water and increase your utility bills. If you have a leaky Kohler bathroom faucet handle, you can fix it yourself with a few simple tools and materials. Here are the steps on how to do it:

1. Gather your tools and materials. You will need:

  • A Phillips head screwdriver
  • A flat head screwdriver
  • A pair of pliers
  • A new washer
  • Petroleum jelly

2. Turn off the water supply to the faucet. There are usually two shut-off valves under the sink, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water.

3. Remove the handle. Most Kohler faucet handles are held in place by a screw. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw. Once the screw is removed, the handle should come off easily.

4. Remove the cartridge. The cartridge is the part of the faucet that controls the flow of water. To remove the cartridge, use the flat head screwdriver to pry off the cap. Once the cap is removed, you should be able to pull the cartridge out.

5. Inspect the washer. The washer is a small rubber washer that creates a seal between the cartridge and the faucet body. If the washer is worn or damaged, it can cause the faucet to leak. To inspect the washer, remove it from the cartridge and look for any cracks or tears.

6. Replace the washer. If the washer is damaged, you will need to replace it. Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly to the new washer and place it on the cartridge. Then, reinsert the cartridge into the faucet body and tighten the cap.

7. Reinstall the handle. Once the cartridge is installed, you can reinstall the handle. Place the handle on the faucet body and tighten the screw.

8. Turn on the water supply and check for leaks. Turn on both shut-off valves under the sink to turn on the water supply. Then, check the faucet for any leaks. If there are no leaks, you have successfully fixed the leaky faucet.
