How to Fix Bathroom Sink Drains

A clogged bathroom sink drain can be a frustrating and inconvenient problem. But don't worry, it's usually a relatively easy fix that you can do yourself. Here are the steps on how to fix a bathroom sink drain:

1. Unclog the Drain with a Plunger

The first step is to try unclogging the drain with a plunger. Place the plunger over the drain and pump it up and down vigorously. The suction created by the plunger will help to dislodge the clog. If this doesn't work, you can try using a drain snake.

2. Use a Drain Snake

A drain snake is a long, flexible tool that can be used to clear clogs from drains. To use a drain snake, insert it into the drain and turn the handle to extend the snake. Push the snake down the drain until you feel it hit the clog. Then, turn the handle in the opposite direction to pull the clog out of the drain.

3. Remove the Drain Stopper

If the clog is in the drain stopper, you can remove it and clean it. To remove the drain stopper, unscrew the screws that hold it in place. Once the drain stopper is removed, you can clean it with a brush or a cloth. Be sure to rinse the drain stopper thoroughly before reinstalling it.

4. Clean the P-Trap

The P-trap is the U-shaped pipe that is located under the sink. It can collect hair, soap scum, and other debris, which can cause a clog. To clean the P-trap, place a bucket under the trap and unscrew the nuts that hold it in place. Once the P-trap is removed, you can clean it with a brush or a cloth. Be sure to rinse the P-trap thoroughly before reinstalling it.

5. Call a Plumber

If you've tried all of these steps and you're still unable to unclog the drain, it's time to call a plumber. A plumber will have the tools and expertise to clear the clog quickly and efficiently.

Tips for Preventing Clogs

Here are a few tips to help prevent bathroom sink clogs:

  • Don't pour grease or oil down the drain.
  • Use a drain strainer to catch hair and other debris.
  • Clean the drain stopper regularly.
  • Flush the drain with hot water once a month.

By following these tips, you can help to keep your bathroom sink drains clog-free.
