How to Fix a Leaky Faucet Under a Bathroom Sink
A leaky faucet under a bathroom sink can be a real annoyance. Not only is it a waste of water, but it can also be a sign of a more serious plumbing problem. If you're dealing with a leaky faucet, there are a few things you can do to fix it yourself.
Before you start, it's important to identify the type of faucet you have. There are two main types of faucets: compression faucets and cartridge faucets. Compression faucets have a washer that seals against the valve seat to stop the water flow. Cartridge faucets have a cartridge that contains both the washer and the valve seat.
Once you know the type of faucet you have, you can follow these steps to fix the leak.
Compression Faucets
- Turn off the water supply to the faucet.
- Remove the handle by unscrewing the screw that holds it in place.
- Remove the packing nut by turning it counterclockwise.
- Replace the washer with a new one.
- Reassemble the faucet in reverse order.
Cartridge Faucets
- Turn off the water supply to the faucet.
- Remove the handle by unscrewing the screw that holds it in place.
- Remove the cartridge by pulling it straight out of the faucet body.
- Replace the cartridge with a new one.
- Reassemble the faucet in reverse order.
If you're not comfortable fixing the leak yourself, you can call a plumber to do it for you. However, if you're a little bit handy, you should be able to fix the leak yourself in just a few minutes.
