How to Fix Leaky One Handle Bathroom Faucet

A leaky bathroom faucet can be a nuisance, not to mention a waste of water. If you're looking to fix it yourself, here are some simple steps to get you started.

Tools you'll need:

Adjustable wrench
Allen wrench (if necessary)
Replacement cartridge (if necessary)

1. Turn off the water supply.

There will be two shut-off valves under the sink. Turn both of these valves clockwise to stop the flow of water to the faucet.

2. Remove the faucet handle.

This can usually be done by unscrewing a small screw that is located on the top or side of the handle. Once the screw is removed, you should be able to pull the handle straight up to remove it.

3. Remove the cartridge.

Using an adjustable wrench, loosen the nut that is holding the cartridge in place. Once the nut is loose, you should be able to pull the cartridge straight out of the faucet body.

4. Inspect the cartridge.

Look for any signs of wear or damage to the cartridge. If the cartridge is damaged, it will need to be replaced.

5. Replace the cartridge (if necessary).

If the cartridge is damaged, you will need to replace it with a new one. To do this, simply insert the new cartridge into the faucet body and tighten the nut until it is snug.

6. Reinstall the faucet handle.

Align the handle with the cartridge and push it into place until it snaps into position. Tighten the screw on the top or side of the handle to secure it.

7. Turn on the water supply.

Turn both shut-off valves counterclockwise to turn the water supply back on. Check for any leaks and tighten the nut on the cartridge further if necessary.

Tips:

If you are not comfortable replacing the cartridge yourself, you can call a plumber to do it for you.
Be sure to purchase the correct replacement cartridge for your faucet model.
If the leak is coming from the base of the faucet, it may be necessary to replace the O-rings.
