How to Install a New Bathroom Faucet and Drain

Replacing a bathroom faucet and drain is a relatively simple plumbing project that can be completed in a few hours. With the right tools and a little bit of know-how, you can save yourself the cost of hiring a plumber. Here are the steps on how to install a new bathroom faucet and drain:

Tools and Materials

New bathroom faucet
New bathroom drain
Adjustable wrench
Plumber's putty
Teflon tape
Basin wrench
Bucket
Rags

Step 1: Turn Off the Water Supply

The first step is to turn off the water supply to the bathroom sink. There should be two shut-off valves located under the sink. Turn both valves clockwise until they are completely closed.

Step 2: Remove the Old Faucet

Once the water supply is turned off, you can remove the old faucet. Start by disconnecting the water supply lines from the faucet. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the lines in place. Once the lines are disconnected, you can unscrew the faucet from the sink.

Step 3: Remove the Old Drain

Next, you need to remove the old drain. Place a bucket under the sink to catch any water that may drain out. Use a basin wrench to loosen the drain nut. Once the nut is loose, you can remove the drain.

Step 4: Install the New Drain

Apply a bead of plumber's putty to the underside of the new drain. Place the drain in the sink hole and tighten the drain nut. Make sure the drain is tight, but do not overtighten it.

Step 5: Install the New Faucet

Apply a few wraps of Teflon tape to the threads of the new faucet. Screw the faucet into the sink hole. Tighten the faucet by hand until it is snug. Then, use an adjustable wrench to tighten the faucet another 1/4 turn.

Step 6: Connect the Water Supply Lines

Connect the water supply lines to the faucet. Hand-tighten the nuts until they are snug. Then, use an adjustable wrench to tighten the nuts another 1/4 turn.

Step 7: Turn On the Water Supply

Turn on the water supply to the bathroom sink. Check for leaks around the faucet and drain. If there are any leaks, tighten the nuts or bolts until the leak stops.

Step 8: Finish Up

Once the faucet and drain are installed and there are no leaks, you can finish up. Remove the bucket from under the sink and clean up any water that may have spilled. Enjoy your new bathroom faucet and drain!
