How to Put Up a Bathroom Cabinet on Plasterboard

Step 1: Determine the Location

Use a tape measure to measure the desired height and location for the cabinet. Mark the points on the wall with a pencil or marking tool.

Step 2: Find the Studs

Locate the studs in the wall behind the marked area using a stud finder. Studs provide the strongest support for the cabinet. If you are unable to locate studs, you can use hollow-wall anchors instead.

Step 3: Drill Pilot Holes (Optional)

For added strength, you can drill pilot holes into the plasterboard where the screws will go. This will prevent the screws from splitting the plasterboard.

Step 4: Position the Cabinet

Place the cabinet on the wall, aligning it with the marked points. Use a level to ensure that it is level both horizontally and vertically.

Step 5: Screw in the Cabinet

Drive plasterboard screws through the pilot holes (or directly into the plasterboard if you did not drill holes) and into the studs. Use a screw gun to ensure a secure fit.

If you were unable to locate studs, use hollow-wall anchors to reinforce the installation. Insert the anchors into the drill holes and then insert the screws into the anchors.

Step 7: Secure the Back of the Cabinet

Finally, use small screws to secure the back of the cabinet to the wall. This will ensure that the cabinet is stable and does not pull away from the wall over time.
