How to Remove a Bathroom Bar Light Fixture

Bathroom bar light fixtures are a common way to illuminate a bathroom, but they can eventually become outdated or need to be replaced. If you're looking to remove a bathroom bar light fixture, there are a few things you'll need to do to ensure a safe and successful removal.

Safety First

Before you begin, it's important to turn off the power to the light fixture at the circuit breaker or fuse box. This will prevent any electrical shocks or accidents.

Gather Your Tools

You'll need a few tools to remove a bathroom bar light fixture, including:

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Wire cutters or strippers
  • Electrical tape

Remove the Fixture Cover

Locate the screws that are holding the fixture cover in place and remove them. The fixture cover may have one or more screws on each side, and some fixtures may have additional screws on the top or bottom.

Disconnect the Wires

Once the fixture cover is removed, you'll see the wires that are connected to the light fixture. Carefully disconnect the wires by unscrewing the wire nuts or using wire cutters to cut the wires. Be sure to cap the ends of the wires with electrical tape to prevent any electrical shorts.

Remove the Mounting Screws

Locate the screws that are holding the light fixture to the mounting bracket. These screws are typically located on the side or bottom of the fixture. Remove the screws and carefully lift the light fixture off of the mounting bracket.

Remove the Mounting Bracket

If you're replacing the entire light fixture, you'll need to remove the mounting bracket from the wall. Locate the screws that are holding the mounting bracket to the wall and remove them. Carefully pull the mounting bracket off of the wall.

Installation

To install a new light fixture, simply follow the steps in reverse order. Be sure to attach the mounting bracket to the wall first, then connect the wires to the light fixture, and finally, attach the fixture cover. Once the new light fixture is installed, turn on the power at the circuit breaker or fuse box and test the fixture to make sure it's working properly.
