How to Remove a Bathroom Vanity Light

If you're looking to update the lighting in your bathroom, removing the old vanity light is the first step. It's a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few minutes with the right tools and a little know-how.

Safety First

Before you start, make sure to turn off the power to the light at the circuit breaker or fuse box. This will prevent any electrical shocks. Once the power is off, you can start removing the light.

Gather Your Tools

You'll need the following tools:

Phillips head screwdriver
Flat head screwdriver
Wire cutters
Electrical tape

Remove the Screws and Cover Plate

Start by removing the screws that hold the cover plate over the light. The screws are usually located on the sides or bottom of the cover plate. Once the screws are removed, you can pull the cover plate off.

Disconnect the Wires

Once the cover plate is off, you'll see the wires that are connected to the light. Use the wire cutters to cut the wires about an inch from the light. Once the wires are cut, you can pull the light straight out of the wall.

Remove the Mounting Bracket (Optional)

Some vanity lights are mounted on a bracket that is attached to the wall. If your light is mounted on a bracket, you'll need to remove the bracket before you can remove the light. To do this, simply unscrew the screws that hold the bracket to the wall.

Wrap the Wires with Electrical Tape

Once the light is removed, you'll need to wrap the exposed wires with electrical tape. This will prevent any electrical shocks. To do this, simply wrap the tape around the wires until they are completely covered.

Reassemble the Light

Now that the light is removed, you can reassemble it. To do this, simply reverse the steps that you took to remove it. First, connect the wires to the light. Then, mount the light on the wall and secure it with the screws. Finally, replace the cover plate and secure it with the screws.
