How to Remove a Bathroom Fan Without Attic Access

Before you begin, gather the necessary tools: a ladder, a Phillips head screwdriver, a flathead screwdriver, a wire cutter, and a flashlight. You may also need a reciprocating saw or a utility knife if the fan is enclosed in a housing.
Remember to turn off the power to the fan at the circuit breaker before starting any work.
Steps:
1.Remove the cover plate.
Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the cover plate in place. 2.Disconnect the wires.
Use a wire cutter to cut the wires connecting the fan to the power supply. Make sure to leave enough wire to reconnect later. 3.Remove the mounting screws.
Locate and remove the screws holding the fan to the ceiling. 4.Pull out the fan.
Carefully pull the fan straight down to remove it from the ceiling. 5.Disconnect the ductwork.
If the fan is connected to ductwork, carefully disconnect it by loosening the clamps or screws. 6.Remove the housing (if necessary).
If the fan is enclosed in a housing, use a reciprocating saw or utility knife to carefully cut away the housing. 7.Clean the area.
Once the fan is removed, clean the area where it was mounted. Vacuum or wipe away any dust or debris. 8.Install the new fan.
If you are installing a new fan, follow the manufacturer's instructions for mounting and wiring. 9.Turn on the power.
Once the new fan is installed, turn on the power at the circuit breaker and test the fan to make sure it is working properly.
