How to Remove a Bathroom Sink Faucet Cartridge
A faucet cartridge is a small, cylindrical device that controls the flow of water in a bathroom sink faucet. Over time, faucet cartridges can become clogged or worn out, which can cause leaks or other problems. If you're experiencing problems with your bathroom sink faucet, replacing the cartridge is a relatively simple and inexpensive repair.
To remove a bathroom sink faucet cartridge, you will need the following tools:
- Adjustable wrench
- Allen wrench
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Flat head screwdriver
- New faucet cartridge
Once you have gathered your tools, follow these steps to remove the bathroom sink faucet cartridge:
- Turn off the water supply to the faucet. There should be two shut-off valves under the sink, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to close them.
- Open the faucet to release any remaining water in the lines.
- Locate the set screw on the top of the faucet handle. This screw is usually hidden under a small cap. Use the Allen wrench to loosen the set screw.
- Pull the faucet handle straight up to remove it from the faucet body.
- Locate the retaining nut on the top of the faucet body. This nut is usually made of plastic or metal. Use the adjustable wrench to loosen the retaining nut.
- Pull the faucet cartridge straight up to remove it from the faucet body.
- Inspect the faucet cartridge for any signs of damage or wear. If the cartridge is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
- Install the new faucet cartridge into the faucet body. Make sure that the cartridge is properly aligned before tightening the retaining nut.
- Tighten the retaining nut using the adjustable wrench.
- Reinstall the faucet handle and tighten the set screw using the Allen wrench.
- Turn on the water supply to the faucet and check for leaks.
If you follow these steps, you should be able to successfully remove and replace a bathroom sink faucet cartridge.
