How to Remove a Stuck Bathroom Faucet Cartridge

A stuck bathroom faucet cartridge can be a frustrating problem, but it's one that you can usually fix yourself with a few simple tools. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to remove a stuck bathroom faucet cartridge:

Tools you'll need:

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Replacement cartridge

Step 1: Turn off the water supply

Before you begin, turn off the water supply to the faucet. You'll usually find two shut-off valves under the sink, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. Turn both valves clockwise until they're completely closed.

Step 2: Remove the handle

Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the handle from the faucet. There will usually be a small screw holding the handle in place. Once you've removed the screw, pull the handle straight up to remove it.

Step 3: Remove the cap

Once the handle is removed, you'll see a cap on the top of the faucet. This cap is usually held in place by two screws. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the screws and remove the cap.

Step 4: Remove the cartridge

Once the cap is removed, you'll see the cartridge inside the faucet. The cartridge is usually held in place by a retaining clip. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the retaining clip and remove the cartridge.

Step 5: Install the new cartridge

Take the new cartridge and insert it into the faucet. Make sure that the cartridge is properly aligned before you tighten the retaining clip. Once the cartridge is in place, tighten the retaining clip until it's snug.

Step 6: Reinstall the cap

Place the cap back on top of the faucet and tighten the screws until they're snug. Make sure that the cap is properly aligned before you tighten the screws.

Step 7: Reinstall the handle

Insert the handle back into the faucet and tighten the screw until it's snug. Make sure that the handle is properly aligned before you tighten the screw.

Step 8: Turn on the water supply

Turn on the water supply to the faucet and check for leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the screws on the cap or the retaining clip until the leaks stop.

Once you've replaced the cartridge, your bathroom faucet should be working properly again. If you're still having problems, you may need to call a plumber for assistance.
