How to Remove a Stuck Moen Bathroom Faucet Handle

When the handle on your Moen bathroom faucet becomes stuck, it can be frustrating and inconvenient. Fortunately, removing a stuck Moen bathroom faucet handle is relatively simple and can be done with a few basic tools. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

Tools You Will Need:

  • Allen wrench or hex key
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • WD-40 or other penetrating lubricant

Step 1: Turn Off the Water Supply

Before you begin, it is important to turn off the water supply to the faucet. You can do this by locating the water shut-off valves under the sink. Turn the valves clockwise to close them.

Step 2: Remove the Handle Cap

On most Moen bathroom faucets, the handle cap is a small plastic or metal piece that covers the screw holding the handle in place. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry off the handle cap.

Step 3: Loosen the Handle Screw

Once the handle cap is removed, you will see a screw holding the handle in place. Use an Allen wrench or hex key to loosen the screw. Do not remove the screw completely.

Step 4: Pull Off the Handle

Once the screw is loosened, you should be able to pull the handle straight up and off the faucet. If the handle is still stuck, apply some WD-40 or other penetrating lubricant to the base of the handle and let it sit for a few minutes.

Step 5: Check the Cartridge

Once the handle is removed, you will see the cartridge. The cartridge is a cylindrical component that controls the flow of water. If the cartridge is damaged or worn, it can cause the handle to become stuck. Inspect the cartridge for any damage and replace it if necessary.

Step 6: Reassemble the Handle

To reassemble the handle, simply reverse the steps above. Insert the new or old cartridge into the faucet, place the handle back on, and tighten the screw. Replace the handle cap and turn the water supply back on.

Tips:

  • If the screw holding the handle in place is stripped, you may need to use an adjustable wrench to loosen it.
  • If the cartridge is damaged, it is important to replace it with a new one of the same type and size.
  • If you are still having trouble removing the stuck handle, you may need to call a plumber for assistance.
