How to Replace a Bathroom Faucet Drain

A leaky bathroom faucet drain can not only be a nuisance but can also lead to water damage. If you are faced with this problem, replacing the drain is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few easy steps.

New faucet drain
Adjustable wrench
Plumber's putty
Utility knife
Bucket

Instructions:

Turn off the water supply to the faucet. You will find two shut-off valves under the sink, one for hot water and one for cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to the closed position.
Open the faucet to release any remaining water in the lines.
Place a bucket under the drain to catch any water that may leak out.
Using the adjustable wrench, loosen the nut that holds the old drain in place. The nut is located underneath the sink, directly behind the drain.
Carefully remove the old drain and discard it.
Apply a thin layer of plumber's putty to the threads of the new drain.
Screw the new drain into place by hand until it is snug. Then, use the adjustable wrench to tighten the nut. Be careful not to overtighten the nut, as this can damage the drain.
Turn on the water supply to the faucet and check for leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the nut a little more. Use a utility knife to trim any excess plumber's putty from around the drain.
