How to Replace a Broken Bathroom Sink

A broken bathroom sink can be a major inconvenience, but it is also a relatively simple repair that can be completed in a few hours with the right tools and materials. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to replace a broken bathroom sink:

Step 1: Gather Your Tools and Materials

Before you begin, gather the following tools and materials:

  • New bathroom sink
  • Wrench
  • Plumber's putty
  • Caulk gun
  • Caulk
  • Utility knife

Step 2: Turn Off the Water Supply

Locate the water supply valves under the sink and turn them off. This will prevent water from flowing into the sink while you are working.

Step 3: Disconnect the Drain

Use a wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the drain in place. Once the nuts are loose, remove the drain and discard it.

Step 4: Remove the Old Sink

Carefully lift the old sink up and off the vanity. Be careful not to damage the vanity or the new sink.

Step 5: Apply Plumber's Putty

Roll out a rope of plumber's putty and apply it to the rim of the new sink. The plumber's putty will help to seal the sink to the vanity and prevent leaks.

Step 6: Install the New Sink

Carefully lift the new sink into place on the vanity. Make sure that the plumber's putty is evenly distributed and that the sink is level.

Step 7: Reconnect the Drain

Insert the new drain into the sink and tighten the nuts to secure it. Make sure that the drain is tight, but do not overtighten it.

Step 8: Reconnect the Water Supply

Turn the water supply valves back on and check for leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the nuts on the drain or the water supply lines until the leaks stop.

Step 9: Caulk Around the Sink

Apply a bead of caulk around the edge of the sink where it meets the vanity. The caulk will help to seal the sink and prevent water from leaking into the vanity.

Step 10: Clean Up

Use a damp cloth to clean up any excess plumber's putty or caulk. Your new bathroom sink is now installed and ready to use.
