Tools and Materials:
- Adjustable wrench
- Phillips screwdriver
- New Moen faucet cartridge
- Bucket
- Rag
Steps:
- Turn off the water supply to the faucet. To do this, locate the shut-off valves beneath the sink. Turn the valves clockwise until they are fully closed.
- Open the faucet to release any remaining water from the lines.
- Remove the aerator from the tip of the faucet. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the aerator and then unscrew it by hand.
- Loosen the packing nut. The packing nut is located at the base of the faucet handle. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the packing nut, but do not remove it completely.
- Remove the handle. Pull the faucet handle straight up to remove it.
- Remove the cartridge. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw that holds the cartridge in place. Once the screw is removed, you can pull the cartridge straight out of the faucet body.
- Install the new cartridge. Insert the new cartridge into the faucet body. Make sure that the cartridge is properly aligned before tightening the screw.
- Replace the handle. Push the faucet handle back onto the stem. Tighten the packing nut snugly.
- Replace the aerator. Screw the aerator back onto the tip of the faucet. Tighten the aerator with an adjustable wrench.
- Turn on the water supply and check for leaks. If there are any leaks, tighten the packing nut or aerator until the leak stops.
