How to Replace the Cartridge in a Delta Bathroom Sink Faucet

Leaking or malfunctioning faucets are a common annoyance in any home. When it comes to Delta bathroom sink faucets, replacing the cartridge is often the solution to restore proper function. Here's a detailed guide to help you through the process.

Gathering Materials:

Before you begin, gather the following tools and materials:

  • Allen wrench or hex key (typically included with the faucet)
  • Replacement cartridge (specific to your Delta faucet model)
  • Bucket or bowl for collecting excess water
  • Cloth or sponge for cleaning
Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Turn Off Water Supply: Begin by locating the water supply valves beneath the sink. Turn off both the hot and cold valves completely to prevent water flow.

2. Release Handle: Using the Allen wrench, loosen the screw located on the base of the handle. Gently lift and remove the handle.

3. Unscrew Escutcheon: Remove the cap or escutcheon covering the base of the faucet. This usually requires turning it counterclockwise.

4. Loosen Cartridge Nut: Beneath the escutcheon, you'll find a cartridge nut. Use the Allen wrench to loosen and remove the nut.

5. Extract Old Cartridge: Carefully grasp the old cartridge by its base and pull it straight up to remove it.

6. Clean Components: Clean the faucet base and the inside of the escutcheon to remove any debris or buildup.

7. Install New Cartridge: Insert the new cartridge into the faucet base, aligning the splines or threads. Gently push it down until it seats firmly.

8. Tighten Cartridge Nut: Thread the cartridge nut back onto the faucet base and tighten it securely with the Allen wrench.

9. Reassemble Handle and Escutcheon: Place the escutcheon over the faucet base and turn it clockwise to secure it. Replace the handle and tighten the screw with the Allen wrench.

10. Restore Water Supply: Turn on the water supply valves beneath the sink and check for any leaks.

Tips:
  • For optimal performance, replace the cartridge with an original Delta replacement part.
  • If you encounter any difficulties during the process, refer to your Delta faucet's owner's manual or consult a professional plumber.
By following these steps, you can effectively replace the cartridge in your Delta bathroom sink faucet and restore its functionality.
