How to Replace a Single-Hole Bathroom Faucet

Replacing a single-hole bathroom faucet can be an easy DIY project that can update the look of your bathroom without hiring a plumber. With the right tools and materials, you can do it yourself in just a few hours.

Step 1: Gather the Necessary Tools and Materials

New single-hole bathroom faucet
Adjustable wrench
Phillips screwdriver
Plumber's putty
Teflon tape
Bucket or bowl
Rags

Step 2: Turn Off the Water Supply

Locate the water shut-off valves under the sink. Turn them clockwise to turn off the water supply to the faucet.

Step 3: Disconnect the Old Faucet

Use the adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the faucet in place from underneath the sink.
Disconnect the water supply lines from the faucet by turning the nuts counterclockwise.
Lift the old faucet out of the sink.

Step 4: Apply Plumber's Putty and Teflon Tape

Apply a ring of plumber's putty around the base of the new faucet.
Wrap a few layers of Teflon tape around the threads of the water supply lines.

Step 5: Install the New Faucet

Insert the new faucet into the hole in the sink.
Secure the faucet by tightening the nuts from underneath the sink.
Connect the water supply lines to the faucet by hand-tightening the nuts.
Use the adjustable wrench to further tighten the nuts.

Step 6: Turn on the Water Supply

Turn the water shut-off valves under the sink counterclockwise to turn on the water supply.

Step 7: Check for Leaks

Inspect the connections for any leaks.
If there are any leaks, tighten the nuts further.
If leaks persist, disassemble the faucet and reapply plumber's putty and Teflon tape.

Step 8: Clean Up

Wipe away any excess plumber's putty or water from the sink and surrounding area.

Tips:

Before you start, make sure you have a bucket or bowl to catch any water that may leak out when you disconnect the old faucet.
If the nuts are difficult to remove, you can use a penetrating oil to loosen them.
If you are not comfortable working with plumbing, it is best to hire a professional plumber to replace the faucet for you.
