Installing a Bathroom Sink Drain Trap

A drain trap is an essential part of any bathroom sink. It prevents sewer gases from escaping into your home and also helps to keep your pipes from clogging. Installing a drain trap is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few minutes.

Materials you will need:

  • Drain trap
  • Slip joint pliers
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Plumber's putty

Instructions:

1. Place a small amount of plumber's putty around the base of the drain trap. This will help to create a watertight seal.

2. Screw the drain trap onto the drainpipe. Tighten the nuts using the slip joint pliers.

3. Attach the P-trap to the drain trap. The P-trap is the curved section of pipe that runs from the drain trap to the sink.

4. Tighten the nuts on the P-trap using the adjustable wrench.

5. Turn on the water and check for leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the nuts on the drain trap or P-trap until the leaks stop.

Tips:

1. If you are replacing an old drain trap, be sure to clean the drainpipe before installing the new trap.

2. You can use a flashlight to check for leaks in the drain trap. Shine the light around the base of the trap and look for any drips or leaks.

3. If you are having trouble getting the drain trap to fit, you can use a hacksaw to cut the P-trap to the desired length.

Installing a drain trap is a simple task that can be completed in a few minutes. By following these instructions, you can ensure that your bathroom sink is properly installed and functioning correctly.
