Remove a Bathroom Sink Faucet

Replacing a bathroom sink faucet is a relatively easy task that can be completed in about 30 minutes. However, before you start, you'll need to gather a few tools and materials.

Tools and materials:

Adjustable wrench
Phillips head screwdriver
Flat head screwdriver
Basin wrench
New faucet
Plumber's putty
Teflon tape

Instructions:

Turn off the water supply. There will be two shut-off valves under the sink, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. Turn both valves clockwise to turn off the water supply.
Disconnect the water supply lines. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts that connect the water supply lines to the faucet. Be careful not to overtighten the nuts.
Loosen the mounting nuts. There will be two mounting nuts that hold the faucet in place. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts. Again, be careful not to overtighten the nuts.
Remove the faucet. Once the mounting nuts are loose, you can remove the faucet from the sink.
Clean the sink. Use a damp cloth to clean the sink around the faucet hole. This will help to remove any old sealant or debris.
Apply plumber's putty. Roll a small piece of plumber's putty into a snake and apply it around the base of the new faucet. This will help to create a watertight seal.
Install the new faucet. Insert the new faucet into the sink hole and tighten the mounting nuts. Be sure to tighten the nuts until they are snug, but do not overtighten them.
Connect the water supply lines. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the nuts that connect the water supply lines to the faucet. Again, be careful not to overtighten the nuts.
Turn on the water supply. Turn on the shut-off valves under the sink to turn on the water supply. Check for any leaks around the faucet.

Tips:

If you are having trouble loosening the mounting nuts, you can use a basin wrench.
Be sure to use Teflon tape on the threads of the water supply lines to help prevent leaks.
If you are replacing a faucet with a different type of faucet, you may need to purchase a new drain assembly.
